Hershey Trust announces lease of former Springboard Academy site to The Vista School

The Milton Hershey Trust announced Friday it has leased the site of its former Springboard Academy to the The Vista School.

The Vista School is a Hershey-based school that focuses on teaching students who have been diagnosed with autism. It currently serves more than 65 students at its location on Cocoa Avenue.

Springboard Academy was a program initiated by the Milton Hershey School in the 2007-08 school year for middle school students.

The academy was designed to ease children from varied backgrounds into the school’s culture. The program, and the academy, were closed earlier this year.

Anthony Colistra, president of Milton Hershey School, said at the time that the academy’s results did not justify the increased cost of the program.

Under the lease agreement announced Friday, Milton Hershey will retain ownership of the property leased to The Vista School.

A timeline for Vista’s move to the site was not part of an initial information release.
